Review:
Sweden’s Angel Blake blasted onto the scene in 2006 with their self titled album ‘Angel Blake’ which was released through Metal Blade Records. Now, thanks to Dynamic Arts Records I have a copy of their latest album ‘The Descended’ to review for Mystic Metal. So here within my clutches I have a CD that is rocking my world! It’s filled with classic metal riffs, dark undertones and it’s sending me into metal overload!
Anywhere But Here: 05:00 An uplifting track and an amazing introduction to the album. I am captivated. Clean, deep vocals, classic metal guitar riffs, excellent drums, rhythmic leads, excellent sound engineering and overall it’s just bloody good!
Defenseless: 04:00 Caressed by some catchy guitar work, we are soon ravished by some deep growl vocals which are soon accompanied by some divine metal riffs. The music is motivating, atmospheric and enduring.
Again: 04:57 A melodic track filled with the beauty of angst. It is emotion filled with divine musical accompaniment. A radio friendly track to be sure, but captivating none the less.
When All The Lights Are Out: 04:39 More of a heavy rock track and again it is radio friendly though it definitely has a darker element. The music in general is well written and produced. This is definitely a band with wealth potential!
Alone: 05:17 A melancholic introduction to a beautiful arrangement of darkness and longing. It is the type of track that sets a soundtrack to your more sombre moments.
Wasn’t Meant To Last: 04:41 The darkness within this track embraces the senses as it reaches a level so close to power metal it’s truly tantalising. The vocals are held well, as the guitars continue to add that rhythmic spice. I am spellbound by this band. They rock!
In Silence – Augerum: 02:15 A rather gothic, operatic and atmospheric interlude within the album. It’s short and sweet allowing you time to breathe for this next track.
The Descended: 04:32 The deep vocals within are consuming. They range from clean to scream to death and manage to hold some great harmonies. The music is alluring and never ceases to please throughout this album.
Silent Voice: 04:21 A beautiful guitar intro sets the scene for a dark, transcendent abyss of musical serenity. The vocals instil passion, the guitars create shards of blazing emotion, whilst the remaining members ensure you are truly enraptured and unable to avert your ears.
You’ll Never Need To Feel Again: 06:49 The longest and final track off the album. It is drenched with doom and abysmal delight. I can honestly say, that this is another must for the avid metal collector.
