Art In Exile

Review:
Hailing from Adelaide, Art In Exile are fronted by what I can only describe as an arrangement of femme psychosis. Tormenting screams and hollow melodies backed by lunacy and utter angst. The lyrics are pure poetry. They are dark, atmospheric, gothic, punk and metal combined. Forming in 2002 they have been climbing the ranks and getting themselves heard by both national and international avenues such as Triple J’s ‘Full Metal Racket’, US radio show ‘The Darkside’ and Europes radio show ‘Goth Metal World’.
MAGNETISM 05:54 – With a beautiful, gothic style introduction this truly deceives the listener for what is to come. She is like the eye of the cyclone, the calm before the storm. The demon is lying there so close to the surface, waiting to pounce. Before you know it, you are being mauled by her screeching vocals. The music is divine and twisted and embraces each haunting note.
“We tie our arms around them, because we can never feel what they do. We smother our friends as we fight for their essence. We leave fingerprints as evidence…”
BEHIND THE EYES 09:59 – There is no mercy within this track. You are mentally attacked from the get go. You are trapped in their psychosis. Hammering into your brain at first, though soon you surrender to a slow, twisted interlude. Before you know it, you are completely lost within their realm; falling deeper and deeper into insanity. It is truly entrancing.
“You only talk to make things suffer, when I’m choking on my words. You offer your hands unto my throat. I don’t know how to speak clearly…”
SPITTING THORNS IN A COMATOSE 03:38 – It’s a beautiful combination of clean, death and screeching vocals. The music has that luscious double kick drum that I adore. It’s entertaining, and I think they would be great to see live. This is perhaps my favourite track off the EP.
“Unable to withstand this empty daydreaming. Breeding emotions, wearing out my vitality. Avoiding the subject, just making it disappear. Sucking up like a vortex, the primrose path…”
SOBER OPTIC 06:38 – Here we have a catchy track. Very goth club style with its dark, melodic and hypnotic tunes. It’s lyrically intriguing as they all are. The music throughout this entire EP has been put together well. The changes are great and really manage to keep the listener tuned in.
“The statue is crumbling and your face is fractured. Mouth of your poisonous appetite. Glamour’s decomposing and the days exposed. Your face and all its deep set lines…”
In essence, the EP itself is presented well containing all the lyrics, band pix, interesting artwork and contact information. The content as noted above is intriguing. It has beautifully dark elements blended with banshee screams and haunting growls. The music is divine and well worth the listen. A band that I am sure will go far.
