Interview with:

blood mortized band

An introduction to Blood Mortized

Mattias Parkkila

Mattias Parkkila - Vocals - Age 33

Founder of Blood Mortized together with Benny Moberg as a project in late 2007. Played together with Benny Moberg in a band called Malfeitor during the early 90’s. Mattias also did some recordings back then. He growled on Stigmata's demo ‘Deceived Minds’. That was recorded in April 1992, and also with the project Egypt, where he battled with David Brink, the singer from Morpheus. Mattias writes all Blood Mortized lyrics. Influenced by bands like Immolation, Entombed, Dismember, Unanimated, Deicide, Black Sabbath, but also other kinds of music styles such as Kyuss, Queens Of The Stone Age, Bob Dylan, Pogues, At The Drive In and ZZ Top.

Benny Moberg

Benny Moberg - Gutars / Bass - Age 33

The Producer of all Blood Mortized demos. Previously in Malfeitor where no official demos were made. Performed some small gigs in Stockholm together with bands like Desultory, Excruciate, Morpheus and so on. Influenced by Paradise Lost, Black Sabbath, Immolation, Obituary, Grave, Unanimated and Unleashed.

Anders Hansson

Anders Hansson - Gutars / Bass - Age 34

Anders joined the band in April 2008. Anders Hansson was a member of Amon Amarth between 1988 and 1998, and he performed on the first two official releases, ‘Sorrow Throughout The Nine Worlds’ (Pulverised Records, 1996) and ‘Once Sent From The Golden Hall’ (Metal Blade Records, 1998). He also has a history in other Stockholm-based bands like Pathaloy and Scum.

Mattias Borgh

Mattias Borgh - Drums - Age 33

Mattias joined the band in late August 2008. Mattias has a substantial background within various music genres. Amongst other projects, he is also the drummer in the Swedish cult death metal band Crypt of Kerberos. Mattias began playing drums at the age of ten and studied for some years with Lars Östlund at Strängnäs culture school. In 1992 Mattias joined the group Crypt of Kerberos and in 1993 Crypt of Kerberos recorded their debut album ‘World of Myths’ for Adipocere Records, France. The album was released to critical acclaim in seventeen countries including the USA.

Tell us about the band name…

Pure blood, pure horror, pure evil, mixed and splattered on the wall!

Discography:

Aside from digital demos on Myspace and Facebook, a self titled debut album will be released early 2009 on Vrykoblast Productions.

How would you describe your music?

Powerful, old school, Swedish, death metal in a new blood stained suite.

What one thing do you feel sets you apart from the rest in this genre?

A great mixture of old school death metal and the best of new death metal. A mind blowing combination!

How long did it take to record your latest material?

About six Months.

What is the inspiration behind your latest material?

The past and future recordings are an overload of aggressive minds.

Any plans for a music video?

We actually made a short promo video that can be seen on our site www.bloodmortized.com. It would be cool to make a real one.

When you go into recording mode, do you find it easy or challenging?

A little bit of both, as we produce the album ourselves. It is tricky getting that sound that we want.

Is there a particular market or country you are trying to reach?

No, we are needed everywhere haha!

What kind of message are you trying to relay to your audience?

Nothing special, just give them the best death metal music they’ve ever heard. Well, in a while at least!

Who’s responsible for the bands artwork?

As for the debut cover we wanted something that could relate to our music; a graveyard, black birds and a full moon was right on target. An old Sabbath style of cover. The cover was drawn by the metal illustrator Jumali Katani in Singapore. Our personal photographer, Jens Lind, took the band pictures and Benny Moberg made the stunning aftertouch. The Blood Mortized logo was made by Benny Moberg. We wanted a clean logo were you are able to see the bands actual name, but at the same time have that old school feeling.

How hard has it been to get to this point?

Not hard at all! We got a record deal after four months. Must be our talent to write good stuff haha!

Where does your main fan base / support tend to lie?

Within Europe; Germany and France etc. But we have started to recognise some movement in Asia and USA as well.

What is your favourite venue?

That might be the Blood Mortized studio or the PUB!

What are some of your favourite local acts? And have you had the chance to play alongside them?

It would be criminal not to mention Unleashed, Grave, Dismember and Entombed. But we have not played with them.. yet!

What would be your most memorable gig / performance to date?

A small underground festival in Tullinge, south of Stockholm, in1993, where we played with other great local acts like Excruciate, Desultory, Morpheus and Scum (later Amon Amarth).

Have you got a favourite song you like to play? And is there one in particular you've noticed your fans have started asking for?

No, they seem to want the whole album actually haha! We got an awesome response during Sweden rock’s annual boat trip, where the DJ played songs from our future album before and after Dismembers performance.

If you were playing at a metal festival, who would you prefer was playing alongside you and where would that be?

Sydney would be really cool, along with Slayer and Immolation.

What kind of instruments do you use? And have you done the ‘Rock Star’ thing yet and smashed any equipment?

Guitars, Bass and drums, some keyboard might be hidden on some tracks. We can’t break our stuff, as we aint got that kind of money! Otherwise we definitely would!

Have you ever had any Mystical experiences?

During the recording of the track ‘Wishing Hell’ we felt a presence of a fifth man in the room; a big man with a huge black beard. His strange odour was so fucking strong! And he kept asking for whiskey! When our finest single malt was empty, he suddenly disappeared. The only thing left was a mumbling sound on the recorded guitar-track. You can really hear him asking for more whiskey if you listen to the original album. Haha strange!

Where can people purchase your music and merchandise from?

Keep your eye out on www.bloodmortized.com and we will announce it as soon as we know.

What words of advice can you offer anyone looking to enter the music industry?

Do what you want and look good naked! Haha!

Anything you'd like to add or say to your fans?

If you like old school death metal, go and buy the album! You will not be disappointed! Cheers!
