Review:
Defamer were introduced to me at a Children Of Bodom gig here in Sydney. I admired them then, and I admire them now. I wear their shirt with pride! And the EP I have finally gotten around to reviewing, reminds me of just how bloody good they are! A definite must for the death metal collection! But don’t go playing it around any softies! This is true death metal… Oz style.
Chorus Of Whispers - Immediately we are presented with total carnage; blistering death vocals, pulverizing guitar riffs and melodies, sinister drum beats and an all out seduction of metal! About 3 minutes into the track, there is a nice little bass solo / melody. Unless you are completely concentrating on them, you can’t really understand the vocals. Though, you don’t really need to, it’s just one of those tracks that sound soothing enough for the metal soul.
Maelstrom – These guys are simply brutal! There’s no doubt about it! It’s a nice arrangement of basic metal rhythms accompanied by the odd metal riff. It’s constant in its speed and really manages to drive it into your soul.
In Winter It Began – I really love how every introduction is pure fucking carnage! They really maintain a heavy death level, so I truly recommend them for any avid death metal fan. This track has great timing and really proves their worth I think. It has got an old school feel to its death edge, with a seemingly fresh approach. It may lie within the arrangement and the fact that it keeps changing just ever so slightly and doesn’t remain stagnant throughout. All in all, it’s a bloody good death track!
In essence, Defamer are worth the purchase, worth the concert ticket, and definitely worth checking out! So get off your arse and support Aussie metal!
