DEFAMER

Chasm

defamer chasm

Defamer have presented me with their full length album ‘Chasm’ to review and enjoy and as always, it's a pleasure to abide! The album cover as you can see above is very metal in its origin. The inner sleeve contains all the lyrics, band picture and basic info. Best of all, it contains some seriously heavy Death Metal, so let’s get into it!

In Umbris – A mystical instrumental leads us into this album and perfectly into the next track.

In Winter It Began – An instant death metal assault on the ears. It is heavy and hammering! This track ensures your purchase was well worth it. The drums thunder out some sweet double kicks and the overall sound is just brutal!

"Many battles I've surpassed conflicts mind and flesh, Many horrors have I witnessed but none I couldn't fell..."

The Inverse Dominion – Such deep, deathly vocals guide you through this metal creation. Backed by some torrid guitar melodies and an overall mental clash, the music is hammering out everywhere and won’t let you rest! It’s busy and constant and can definitely raise the blood pressure as it keeps you entwined in its deathly embrace.

"There exists an abhorred place, Where cliffs caress the sky..."

The Black Obscene – This track sprays omnivorous rhythms and deathly roars amongst some blasting beats and blood splattering essence. Can it get more death metal than that?

"This is a lesson for the fodder of the worms, One thousand candles extinguished..."

Of The Chasm – This deceitfully calmer introduction drains what little life essence you may still behold after listening to the previous tracks. You are soon put through the blender as Defamer proceed to drain you dry with their bestial roars, head hammering beats and strangling guitar riffs.

"I exist in this chasm, In excrement Iay distended amongst the rats..."

Charms Of Whispers – These guys are always straight into it; mercilessly and unrelenting. The damage is constant and buries you into a corner each and every time. Unable to breathe as you are exposed to each slashing rhythm and beat. Musical suffocation.. yes.. that’s exactly what it is!

"I stand at the edge of the world, Feeling the soft winds of the void..."

Maelstrom – If the last track was musical suffocation, then this one is a necrophilia nightmare! I don’t think I need to go into more detail on that, however, I will add that here in lies a corpse to be turned again and again. Such beautiful carnage!

"In the calm before the maelstrom, The mirror revealed my twin..."

Endless Hordes Expiring – Could this slow sounding entrance be the slow stepping feet of the cemetery groundskeeper who has just discovered the disturbed grave?! *smack* he his hit from behind and the brutality begins all over again! Haha.. Awesome mini riff within this track!

"In what they cannot comprehend they cannot bestow a name, A deplorable incompetence I cannot exonerate lo I emerge..."

Abysmal Misery – Another instant attack on the listener draws us to believe we inadvertently discovered a den of victims! They scream as they are being tortured and we can only stand there stunned and disgusted! ‘Such vile beasts’ you think to yourself as you feel a tap on the shoulder. It is who you believe to be the captor, seemingly handing you a blade. ‘Finish them off’ he demands. Then you realise you are alone and this was all your doing all along! How easy it is to lose your self within the realm of death!

"Misery encompassing my mind, Melancholia flowing from my mouth..."

In essence, this album is deadly heavy and ever so brutal; an astounding representation of Australian Death Metal. If you haven’t investigated Defamer by now, then you are missing out on some brilliant metal. Delve into your dark side and support them now!
