Disturbed

Review:
Indestructible – Disturbed are significant in their sound. Straight away we are lured into their explosive realm of political angst. This particular track is what I would call typical Disturbed. It’s not the heaviest, nor the fastest, though it does introduce us to the albums layout. It maintains their trademark qualities, and I must state it is definitely a starter track and well placed in the album.
"Another mission, The powers have called me away, Another time to carry the colors again, My motivation, an oath i’ve sworn to defend"
Inside The Fire – Welcomed by the trademark call of David Draiman into this next track, we are soon held within our daze as we listen to the monotonous sounds of Disturbed. Monotonous you scream?! Yes, it really is proving all ready to repeat its musical structure. Much like the first, but with only a few differences; the trademark call, a guitar lead (of sorts) and a couple of added sound effects. Not overly creative, but standard Disturbed tunes. So if that’s what you like, then you’ll like it! If you prefer more creative tunes, then I’m not selling this one to you just yet.
"Devin, won’t go to heaven, She’s just another lost soul, About to be mine again, Leave her, we will receive her"
Deceiver – Perhaps a little bit different to the previous tracks, but again only just. I guess Disturbed feel they need to retain their unique sound so therefore they repeat it throughout each track. I’m easily bored though. And though I don’t like too many changes in a song, I really don’t like repetitive music either. To define this track, I’d say it carries more depth than its predecessors.
"So let the war begin, You’re far from innocent, Hell I just don’t know where it will end, You are the one to blame"
The Night - A more metal intro on this track deceives the listener into believing we may have something new here. It is one of the better ones thus far however. I guess you really need to hear these tracks one at a time and not as a whole album. That way you would pull more enjoyment out of it. The guitar is impressive within this track. It also creates some ambience which generates some appeal.
"What has come over me? What madness taken hold of my heart? To run away, the only answer, Pulling me away, to fall upon (the night)"
Perfect Insanity - This entire album is well constructed, though it is very polished and radio friendly. There is a tad more variance within the vocals here and the drums seem to stand out a little more with perhaps a different composition to the usual drumming. So with that in mind, it’s an ok track. But again, it must be heard in small doses to appreciate it.
"Come inside and be afraid, Of this impressive mess I’ve made, If you take a look now you will find, I have thrown away my vice"
Haunted – Honestly, this is really starting to numb my brain and it’s only every now and again I tune back in to hear what’s going on. And that’s only when the song changes kick in. The rest is so repetitive; I am beginning to ignore it, which is really not a good sign. If I only owned the one Disturbed album (namely this one) I’m sure I’d have a different opinion as I wouldn’t know what to have expected. But seriously, it says a lot about a band when they make repetitive, radio friendly, record company issued crap. I’ve kept an open mind getting into this, and I am disappointed. Maybe being on the road a lot nowadays is killing them creatively?! Who knows.
"You’re broken, so am I, I’m better off alone, No one to turn to, And nothing to call my own"
Enough – A more mellow and ambient track to begin with. About 2.5 minutes into it, it livens up a little, then drags you back under into its melancholic theme. It does, however, stand out comparatively so that in itself is a good thing for the album.
"We don’t want them, We want everything, And we’ve stolen, in this suffering, And we’ve told them"
The Curse – I think the teens of the world must love this shit. You look at some music TV shows and see all the R&B crap and this is the stuff that stands out these days I guess. So generationally I’m sure it rocks but as I said, it’s disappointing that there isn’t more creative ideas and structure behind it. But then I guess, if you heard the songs I like, you may not find much difference within them so I guess it’s all about the thing that makes you tick. And this just isn’t making me tick.
"Marked for demolition, I’m, Just a time bomb, ticking inside, No hope for the hopeless, I can see the pieces, all laid out in front of me"
Torn – Again, I must repeat, I did go into this with an open mind, and do like some of their other albums, but this is just not as good as they could have given. They sound… tired. Though a nice little guitar riff in here put a smile to my blank face. We’ll leave it at that shall we?!
"I learned how to fall today, Didn’t think it would kill you, To settle a debt I thought, Never would be paid"
Criminal – A whisper upon entry, a beat to mosh to, a voice to relate to, and with a melody to never disappoint the masses we again find ourselves within the circle of angst. I guess this one would be one of their more popular songs, if not it should be as it sounds more mainstream-teen-like if you get my drift.
"Malevolent criminal, I, When the vision paints my mind, Cross the invisible line, And you’ll be paid in kind"
Divide – Scattered with droplets of moshable parts, I’d think this would be one of the better live tracks. But I can’t say much for it in general though. I really think the band need to take some time for themselves and re-group at a later date once they’ve cleared their heads and come up with a fresh approach to their music. I don’t want to trash them, as they’ve obviously generated a massive influence out there within many bands! It’s just that I doubt it would ever have stemmed from this particular album. They are not even one hit wonders, as there are many great tracks Disturbed have written, but this is just not one of them.
"I want to tear a big hole in what is to be, To end all this infatuation with unity, I'm seeking my salvation alone again, I never needed to be one of you anyway"
Facade – Yep, perhaps this is what the album should have been entitled. Reading back on this I feel quite low about the review, but seriously, when you are in the spotlight and create this kind of crap, you had better expect reviews like this. The only thing going for this album is the few and far between guitar riffs they’ve managed to pull out of oblivion. Nothing else really stands out. Not even within this one. Sorry kids. This album is just not my cup of tea.
"No one knows just what has become of her, Shattered doll, desperate, Oh so innocent and delicate, But too damn obdurate and obstinate, to let go"

Disturbed are thriving in their success from albums 'Ten Thousand Fists', 'Believe' and 'The Sickness'. Filled with angst, their songs sink deep into the hearts of youths today. Having enjoyed a fair share of previous works, I decided to take on their latest release; Indestructible.

In essence, it's unmistakably Disturbed and that's ok, but at this point in their career, I was looking for something with more depth, something a little different to their usual journey. Alas, I am disappointed, but not deterred as I know they have it in them to create some good tunes. As I said, listening to it individually amidst other bands might work, but listening to this in the albums entirety straight up is mind numbing and nothing special. Each to their own I guess.
