Review:
Since 2002 Recoil have been crawling their way through the Sydney scene and dowsing us in flames of hardcore rage and adversity. Today I am reviewing their promotional demo which consists of three tracks; Suicide Trip, Sleepless & Frightened and Deadcold. All these tracks are hardcore metal. So if you love your hardcore, then you will love this band. They are tight and brutal and smashing their way through the scene at full speed. They’ve been touring around with bands like Tourettes, Gene Defect, Carpathian and many more. I saw them at Club Blink the other week and they were awesome. So let’s take an in depth look at what they’ve got to offer.
Suicide Trip (04:42) – The drums are consistent as they slam your head through the wall. Each hammering is complemented by brutal guitar work; like a chainsaw to the throat! Each scream is devouring and completes the battering. Its rhythmic flow ensures a brilliant mosh for all.
Sleepless & Frightened (04:34) – The vocals are seriously throat ripping but because the tracks are mixed so well, they sound smooth in the final mix. So hails to the engineer for that. Again, totally moshpit material to keep you up all night! The whole track is so in your face til about two thirds of the way through when they throw in a divine lead guitar. It’s pretty old school too, kinda Suicidal Tendencies like so it gets the thumbs up from me! Great track.
Deadcold (06:00) – From the get go its like a smack to your head. You just know this one isn’t going to let up anytime soon. It really does tend to have some great old school rhythm flowing though their tracks. Which makes it that bit different to other hardcore bands I’ve heard lately. It’s these types of differences that really help them to stand out. It’s all so damn heavy, you can’t not like it. If you’re not a hardcore fan, well I can only recommend you give this a listen to as it may change your tune. Tracks like this one go far in the metal realm, so keep your eye out for Recoil folks!
