Review:
Those that attended the gig on Saturday night will agree that it was a great gig! It was put on by Metal Evilution and Hails to them as it really was a good blend of Metal. It was Progressive Power Metal at its best. All these bands play damn well and manage to inspire the crowd. The stage was perhaps a tad small for these amazing musicians and it seemed at times their own separate stages were needed! I think The Harp could definitely do well to improve their stage size and extend their facility for a larger audience. Metal venues are scarce as hell these days in Sydney so I really think The Harp Hotel could up the ante somewhat.
Sobrusion were up first and it was interesting to see how they used up such a small stage. They present themselves well and have an awesome sound. The vocalist has a lot of power in his voice and can really hold his notes. I always love when the long haired metal musicians do their twirl as they play their guitars; it’s so metal and I just love it! The crowd loves it! Their bassist was in a league of his own and seriously needed his own stage.
Friar Rush were somewhat demanding to get the crowd involved and sure enough they got ‘em going. There was total passion in the play and they obviously all love what they do, which is what makes them such good musicians. They played a great set and again there was awesome power in the vocals. I must note that the guitar work was fantastic and their stage presence was brilliant for such limited space.
Transcending Mortality are absolutely amazing to watch and being there on Saturday was a great experience. It was intimate and had that whole brotherhood feel to it. With the introduction of their newest member, Nathanial, it made the night that extra bit special. Every little extra riff he played on the bass was worshipped and cheered on by the hordes. I don’t think that smile will leave his face for the next year! The crowd really got into it and it just panned out to be a great night.
